I’ll start this by saying that anyone is free to feel insulted by whatever they feel insulted by. But I - an Asian-American living in a third world country - really think this criticism is stretching a bit.

Socialism doesn’t mean someone can’t get modestly wealthy.  It means you can’t get wealthy off the work of other people, which is the core component of capitalism.  As long as he is paying his employees the actual value of their labor, there is no hypocrisy.

No amount of consumption under capitalism is ethical. The person who can afford a $20k car can afford a $2500 car and give the rest to charity as well.

I get it in my heart. Oda gets 1 week off every month, on top of any breaks the magazine itself takes! But I prefer it that way, I’ve read of so many mangaka who have died early deaths due to overworking, or have developed chronic pain issues.
