I think the "photorealistic" Sega Dreamcast style seen in Sonic Adventure 2, Crazy Taxi, Bass Fishing, and arcade games like Muscle March and ghost squad remain a joy to look at. Simplistic geometric shapes with photographs superimposed as textures could be really cool with enchanced resolution too.

I would agree. While Final Destination is an acceptable map for just about any kind of play, the default competitive map really is, and should be, Battlefield.
