This was likely not a max trailer tow optioned truck. In the 2009 to 2o14 that option added about 500 lbs to the GVWR/payload. In the 2015+ they all get the top GVWR number, unless you add heavy payload which gets another 500 lbs.

By that logic every tractor trailer combo on the road is grossly unsafe, and you’d need a smaller Kenworth/peterbilt/etc. Class 7 truck to haul a 15,000 trailer.
Here is the way you need to think about the 3.5 EB in the f150: You can pull power from it like a big 6.2 V8 whether it be for towing or having fun (getting similar mpg as the big 8 would), OR you can drive it sedately and get similar mileage to a small 8 like the 5.3 or 5.0. Will it burn more fuel than a small 8 when…
It’s not just about peak numbers, it’s about where in the RPM range those numbers come in. Until I see power curves showing differently, I’ll assume this is like every other modern V8 with a torque peak north of 4,000 RPM. Not only does the 3.5 ecoboost make 20 ft/lbs more, but it does it at 1500 rpm lower. That’s the…
Under what possible circumstances have you heard a Canadian claiming to be American?
So the salesman at the Toyota dealer was the only one dishonest enough to tell him what he wanted to hear? Most plows will easily exceed the front GAWR of “half ton” trucks. If the manufacturer becomes aware that the truck has been overloaded, the warranty on certain components may be denied. Worse, fatal accident…
There might be a “prep pack” that gives the brackets etc. under the bed, but the hitch itself is still a going to be ~50 lbs on its own. It doesn’t sound like much, but when you’re trying to set up a truck with 2000 lbs payload to tow a 5th, every little bit hurts.
The problem is the payload won’t keep up with towing a 10k 5th. 5th wheels are 20-25 % of trailer as pin weight, which is payload. Err on the low side at 2o% of 10k and you have a 5th putting 2000 lbs on the truck, not including the 5th wheel hitch in the bed, passengers in the cab. No, this truck can’t handle a 5th…
2015 changed those to six bolt wheels, no easy way to tell now without looking at the GVWR.
Except for the fact that “one ton” trucks have payload ratings in the 4000 lb range and 2000 lbs is no better than GM or Fords half tons, while the nissan weighs over 6000 lbs.
It is hardly “outrageously” expensive. 3/4 and 1 ton Fords go through a tank between oil changes unless you’re towing heavy frequently, and it’s only 30-40 dollars to fill. Also, it is constantly injecting DEF, the burn off of the DPF is another system.
“Dated” by that oh so old independent rear suspension compared to the “cutting edge” straight rear axle in the caddy?
I know it’s fashionable to bag on Ecoboost engines, but have you even tried an Ecoboost equipped F150 or Expedition? Before you complain about the lack of power from a twin turbo 3.5 and long for the power of a “huge” modular V8, go take a drive in a 2014 f150 with the ecoboost and one with the 6.2. If don’t let the…
I find the name “Hemi” on engines without hemispherical heads a bigger joke.
Drive an older Excursion or even an F350 crew cab DRW, a Navigator/Expedition will feel downright small.
Yes the Expedition has that too.
“It dives and sloshes a bit, as is traditional”
Just one more “stupid question”. How is that so different than leaving a car running, unattended, and with the keys in the ignition?
Ford makes exactly zero F-anythings in Mexico. Maybe you’re thinking of Dodge trucks?
