Most people don’t know that artists pull reference from real life. There’s always this shock among critics that everything, including the human body was not invented by the artist. When in fact pulling from real life is the first thing you are taught in art school.

HEY LOOK! A destructible environment in the trailer! That is NEVER, EVER, EVER done in video games. In GTA if you drive into a tiny little bush it wrecks your car like a stone wall. In Bloodborne if you hit the a wrong box or wooden prop, sparks fly like it’s a stone wall.

When they made Dark Souls 2 they had this whole system of needing to hold a torch in one hand in order to see. Then the whole thing was nixed and the whole game was lightened and had less contrast.
