I just realized I am now one of those annoying 'what about _____ instead?' people and I wanted to say I'm sorry! Linus is actually growing on me. It's different, but not in a try-hard kind of way and it's old worldly without being too weird. Plus, if you have another kid and you decide to go with something a little…
I like it. I don't love love it, but if you love it, I see no major negatives. I think Peanuts is fairly timeless pop culture, so that association will always be there. But I also think that kids do not get teased for their names nearly as much as we fret will happen. Especially now, between the Aiden/Jayden/Braydens…
I just started telling people we had a few names but hadn't decided yet. I also told people with a big grin that it was going to be a SURPRISE. And on a side note—my kids Scarlett (NOT from Gone with the Wind) and Silas (NOT Cyrus) are 13 and 10. They have no idea what Charlie Brown is. Kids your son's age won't even…
Also, about people suggesting other names: when my sister was born, my mom called her parents, who were babysitting me and my brother. She said, "it's a girl! Her name is [perfectly normal, somewhat common/popular girl's name]!"
It just makes me think of Benjamin Linus from Lost. That's a good thing, because he was an amazing character. I say if you like it, go for it!
honestly, i am not sure his generation is going to have much of a connection to Peanuts at all!
Or Linus Pauling who was an awesome person (physicist and peace activist).
Silas is a perfectly lovely name!
Love it!!!!! It's original but not made up, and it sounds cute enough for a little guy but can easily transition into adulthood. Jackpot. And congratulations!
TRIGGER WARNING
I learned not to tell anyone what I was naming my baby the hard way with my first child. People can be incredibly rude about a decision you've obviously put a lot of thought into. I found it was better to introduce the baby than let everyone I knew pick apart my choices. As for the Charlie Brown reference, if you name…
I like that name. Sounds like the name of a good kid and a wonderful man some day.
I knew a linus in high school, he was a nice goofy kid and there were a lot of gentle puns and teasing about his name, it kind of made him the butt of a lot of jokes, even though he was generally well liked.
See, I find "Linus from Charlie Brown" to be a completely sweet and endearing rationale for a name. Linus was a nice kid. As a real person's name, I think it's one of those slightly old-mannish names that has swung back around to being hip again, like Ezra or Lavinia. Go for it!
To be 100% straight I don't love it because it's one of those names I imagine dogs having but not people. Silas is a favorite name of mine though and they're kind of similar. Ultimately, if you and your other half/co parent (if you have one) love it then you should use it. When you're having doubts try to remember…
One of my good friends is named Linus, so I like the name. His dad is a physicist, so he was named after Linus Pauling. I do think Peanuts is the more immediate reference for most people.
I think it's an adorable name!
Honestly, it just makes me think of beans.
i personally think it's a really sweet name that ages well (an adult Linus does not sound as silly to me as some other more trendy names). i will warn you that there are a few scenes in Arrested Development where it's used as a euphemism for penis— just in case that matters to you. i mean, that is probably not a…
