Goddamn, those later MST3K host segments are just purely unwatchable. The riffing is still pretty good in that last season, but the host segments with Pearl and "Brain Guy"—not just bad, but absolutely unwatchable. Even the KTMA shows are better.

The AV Club has only heard of, like, four shows that aired before 1990. Sorry, M*A*S*H.
Spader is electrifying on THE PRACTICE and deserved an Emmy. I didn't like BOSTON LEGAL, because it was too cartoonish (as, to be honest, THE PRACTICE occasionally was in its later seasons) and Alan Shore was ridiculous. But Shore was a fascinatingly complex character on his one season of THE PRACTICE, and I suspect…
I think it's not the quality of the effects per se, it's just that the modern rendering doesn't fit with the rest of the picture (I feel the same way about the new digital effects in the television series).
Especially weak considering Kirk's hobby was history.
Apparently, Spock tells them to punch Khan in the face many times, and that will stop him.
"I promised myself I would never tell you your future. But since you asked, here's the deal…"
They were familiar with Khan Noonian Singh. But if a guy just said, "My name is Khan," would you immediately think, "Oh yeah, that famous dictator from 300 years ago?"
INTO DARKNESS is one of very few films that made me angry. Like really really pissed off. I still can't believe how stupid it is and how insulting it is to our intelligence.
Though I must admit, I think I prefer the theatrical cut. If only because I don't think the new visual effects quite work.
Oh God, that score. I almost wish the Kirk-returning-to-Enterprise scene were longer just to hear Goldsmith score it.
I can never decide which one I like better. It usually boils down to which one I've seen more recently.
Just because Kirk says or even believes he's never faced death before doesn't necessarily make it true. It's not being stated as a definitive fact—just Kirk's perception.
I sure would like to know how much of Jack B. Sowards is in the script. I would guess 80% of it is Meyer, but I don't know if that's ever been revealed.
I would agree with this and probably add a few more episodes. KHAN is certainly better than any episodes of the other TREK series, I would think, though I'd entertain counterthoughts.
It's also ludicrous that McCoy literally created a cure for death. You think that won't be ignored in the next movie?
A big reason Season 3 was generally inferior to the first two (besides Paramount slashing the budget) was the lame traffic cop directors brought in. A lot of terrific TV directors did just one episode, usually in the first season, went a half day or a full day over schedule (which, I think, is to be expected,…
Adjusted for inflation, TMP is the #2 most successful TREK film of all time at the box office (the 2009 remake is #1).
John Caponera and John Mendoza had back-to-back NBC sitcoms. What are those guys up to these days?
Not since Jay Robinson was alive.
