It’s even worse, they’re leaving the show because it’s a COMPETITION show, and one person is eliminated at the end of every episode, by design. The AV Club write-ups make it seem like these departures weren’t expected, but they’re literally part of the premise of the show.

The vote was 97.91% in favor of a strike authorization. So, not a monolith, but those not in favor are in the far minority. Also, there’s a difference in not voting in favor of the strike, and not supporting it when it happens. You’re in a union, show some unity.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi also has a higher critics score than audience: 91% critic to 42% audience, and I suspect it was also review bombed.  I think Furioser and Furioser just pulled from a list of movies where there’s a significant difference between critics vs audience scores, not noticing that some go the other

Now playing

One of my favorite Peter Dinklage rolls is in The Baxter, where he plays a gay wedding planner. His dwarfism isn’t mentioned once, and isn’t a factor in the role at all. It’s a “normal” role, that could be played by anyone, and in this instance is played by a very talented little person.

“nuking the fridge” is, like “jumping the shark,” not necessarily about being the worst part of a work, but it’s such a simple phrase that provides an immediate, specific image that is emblematic of issues with the work as a whole. So it’s not that people are saying the film would be good without that scene, but

The raft seems somewhat plausible at first glance, it’s light and a wide surface area, to the point that Mythbusters tested it (the main problem was the raft would flip on you, it was actually a viable parachute if you could suspend yourself under it). The fridge just fails on its face.

Despicable Me has 5 films in the franchise. Ice Age has 5. American Pie had 4 films, plus a bunch of spinoffs. Night at the Museum had 3 films. Paranormal Activity has 7 films. The Purge has 5 films. A Quiet Place is working on its 3rd. Kingsman is working on a 4th. The “...Has Fallen” series has 3 films, Knives Out

It’s no longer self defense after he stops attacking her and moved away from her. He may have died anyway from that stab to the head, but the beating with a bat was excessive an unnecessary for self defense. She did that due to her rage from previous abuse.

It was self defense to stab him in the head with the knife, which went so far in that it blinded him by stabbing an eye from the back. However, after he got off her and wandered into the recording studio, it was arguably murder for Sally to take the baseball bat and beat him to a pup.

She appeared to be extremely competent on writing/producing/starring in her own show, which was widely praised. It’s just that the show isn’t suited to the instant-feedback format of the streaming service it’s on.

“French hours” is a term used in the film and television industries for when there is no break for lunch during a film shoot. Instead food is passed around all day long and the crew works continuously.

Yeah, there’s a way to view it as a young girl misidentifying her connection with Leon as romantic, and it not being reciprocated by Leon, at least romantically. But it seems like that view isn’t what Besson was actually going for.

Probably both. The extended cut digs more into the “romance” angle, but even the original cut could be considered problematic.

Next you’re going to tell me Night Court got it wrong with Sister Sara Williams.

I would also think that Monstrous Regiment, featuring a female protagonist dressing up as a male to go fight in a war, would be a big fucking clue about his possible views

What I found:

His quote’s reduced to soundbite size, but I’m guessing he meant “don’t identify AS the character,” which Method actors do, not “don’t identify WITH the character,” which all actors do. Like, you need to perform as if you were the character, not BE the character.

The author of this article didn’t read the update to the previous article. Discovery content is still getting added to HBO Max, but Discovery+ is also sticking around as a separate service.

I believe the plan is that the third movie will combine Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. It seems like a lot to cram into a single movie, when they needed 2 movies to film the first book, but that’s the plan

The Department of Energy assessed in the intelligence report that it had “low confidence” the Covid-19 virus accidentally escaped from a lab in Wuhan.
