Apple would love to own the theme parks, if only to make them exclusively use Apple Pay.

Apple just wants Disney+ because the only thing investors like more than a streaming service losing a billion dollars a year is TWO streaming services losing a billion dollars a year.

Anyone who would want Disney and Apple to merge should be beaten with a wiffle bat until they recant.

My favorite iteration of that rumor included the point “Apple doesn’t really want theme parks or cruise ships, so they’ll just sell those off”.

Funny thing is, I actually HAVE seen the trailer a ton of times. But it IS marketed oddly and it does not feel like a mainstream release. More of a feel of “Coming to Disney+” sort of vibe. Really the marketing has seemed really off on this one. Maybe it got lost in the run up to tossing Chapek?

It won’t be there. From what I saw it’s only out for a week and then it goes away. Tomorrow is the last day it’s in theaters.

This wasn’t Pixar, though? I know it’s confusing, but I’m pretty sure this was just a straight “Disney animation” release.

I can’t help but think Disney set this one up to fail, for one simple reason: the main character is openly gay. And yeah, Disney has a new “first gay character” every three months but it’s never been the protagonist before. Considering Chapek’s general contempt for animation and the way he utterly and completely shit

I’ve got a feeling Netflix isn’t releasing those Glass Onion numbers because they are too good.  It would completely undermine their business model.

Yeah I don’t get it either they’re hurting profits. We live in a town where the theatre closed permanently during lockdown so when one has to travel to a neighbouring city to see a film, one certainly considers things like how soon will it be available to stream. I was a bit shocked by Black Adam’s recently 30-day

You’re right, but I don’t think stupidity is to blame. COVID greatly accelerated the “theater to streaming” pipeline, especially for animation, and studios are still playing catchup. In a few years, I’d wager that movies like this will either no longer exist, or go straight to streaming on significantly lower budgets.

“But it's Disney and 3D so..." *writer's head starts to smoke as it can't compute*

Add to that Black Panther is in theaters, they are competing against themselves.

I thought Strange World was a Walt Disney Animation Studios project. Am I crazy.  Everything about this film was underplayed and undermarketed.

Strange World is also up against an accelerated move to streaming”

This. It’s a ‘Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film.

Not a Pixar film.

I *love* Madagascar 3 but I refute your claim.

We complain too much as a society.

Worse company I worked for was one who thought their success was measured in how much capital they were investing in manufacturing equipment. They never had plans to efficiently utilize that equipment beyond one or two products, they were just borrowing money and buying it as it looked good on the balance sheet!
