Maybe it was a really steep flight of stairs.

This Ian's last name is Amberson. A veiled Jethro Tull reference?
Episode idea: Gayle has a chance meeting with Mr. Business' original owner, who recognizes him. Go, series writers!
So a councilman who's running for mayor personally commits a murder, using a zillion-dollar guitar that everybody's looking for as a weapon. I'd call this implausible, but as we've seen, politicians can be as stupid as anyone else.
"Playing the audio of a guy’s murder to his wife to see if she can ID him and only showing us the pained-screaming part is kind of brutal."
Or by its network.
And Dan "Tina Belcher" Mintz as the Sanitation Solutions spokesperson!
You need to turn this into a fanfic. NOW.

Agreed. This episode is disappointing overall, but it had a lot of good moments. Maybe it would have worked better as a tie-in novel, where the characters and situations would have been given enough space to realize their potential.
So half of you think this was a funny episode with good jokes and some touching moments, while half of you think that it wasted its potential, the various plot threads were underdeveloped, and neither Glenn Close nor Mona was used properly. I agree with all of you!
* I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned "Child Predator", an early episode with a similar resolution: the villain ALMOST walks on a technicality, but Sherlock uses another technicality to put him away after all.
For that matter, the SWAT leader who wanted to just shoot Brunelle and go home was white. Hmmm…
Everyone always makes Sherlock pay an embarrassing price for their help. BTW, wasn't part of the deal that Joan had to shave her head too?
:-) Seriously, I wonder whats Candis Cayne is up to these days. Her IMDb page shows she's done a few jobs lately, but I'd really like to see her come back, or at least have Mrs. Hudson be mentioned.
What's wrong with Shinwell?
Maybe he rented it?
Actor availability, maybe?
A defensible viewpoint, but the show's emphasis isn't the murders, but the mystery solving and the Holmes/Watson relationship.
"There are much better procedural dramas out there, even on CBS." Such as?
