The military makes so much ammo a lot of it is sold to the private sector. I pull load after load of it out of a US Army Munition plant every week going to be boxed for retail sales.
But the gun nuts claimed that ammo prices were so high because Obama was having the gubmint buy it all up? You mean they were wrong?

Manufacturing military ammunition is literally the only profitable US manufacturing industry and the US military loves to spend trillions buying things from said contractors. There is no way that the US military would have such a low as supply of ammo on hand.
