As a former new (in 2014) Impreza owner I have to disagree with your assessment of “most fun” and also “surprisingly peppy”. I owned my Impreza for only 6 months because it was most boring and surprisingly sluggish.

The point isn’t that an automatic transmission ‘automatically’ creates a bad driver, it’s that now all types of humans, including brainless morons, can have a go behind the wheel of a 600+ horsepower insane-mobile.
