Cold weather is great for starting working from home when you have a mild cold; once your boss sees you work OK from home, it will be time to take it to the next step: working from home 2 days a week.
Personally, I only use the application if it provides with benefits. For instance, if I can see the content offline (email, news reader, etc).

@combat chuck: Gnumeric is a great spreadsheet; much like Abiword is for Wordprocessing.
I did my thesis in LaTeX, and logically it's presentation with Beamer. Can't say it was not painful; but it did work and had a great presentation.-
