Ooh, salade nicoise sounds amazing! I saw a recipe for it on Ina Garten’s show once and it looked so good. I haven’t tried a spiralizer, but I love an excuse to buy more shit for my kitchen—AND an excuse to go to Trader Joe’s (though not the one on 14th Street—especially after Sunday brunch, it’s a fucking nightmare…
That is a very different problem from mine, but I appreciate the advice about planning and enjoying, although not eating while watching TV feels sort of...sad? I don’t know. I live alone, I eat most of my meals alone, and not having some element of distraction just feels like a reminder that while food is social for…
Really? Wow! I can take or leave breakfast, but usually if I don’t eat it’s because I’m being lazy and/or depressed and haven’t gotten out of bed until midmorning. Doing it deliberately is worth considering, though.
Someone else who lives alone! That’s a really good point. It also makes me physically leave my house to walk to the store, which is a good start.
I like that idea! I keep some sweets/baked goods in the house, but I aim for the ones that aren’t too sweet or that I wouldn’t be tempted to scarf in large quantities (YES to graham crackers, NO to Milano cookies).
Thank you so much! This is really helpful and clever. I need to go grocery shopping tomorrow, and I think this will help me put together a list.
I do like smoothies! I’ve been meaning to use my blender more, anyway. And the evening cut-off is a really good idea: I need to be more consistent about my bedtimes, and a “Kitchen Closing” might help me stick to it a little more. Best of luck with your efforts!
Trying new vegetables is a good one! I think I also need to think about deliberately scaling back my recipes to make them for 2 servings instead of 4 so I don’t get bored as easily over the course of a week.
Some, but I live alone, and most recipes make enough stuff that I end up eating the same 2-3 things for the whole week, which is when I get bored and order Thai food on UberEats.
Oh, I was afraid you’d say that. Realistically, I probably do need to do that, and I’m a pretty good cook so it’s not that I can’t. Unfortunately, I also know that I can make a lot of stuff that is calorie-dense, or make something healthy and still eat a lot of it, which is a different problem, but still. You’re…
Your new hair is so cute! I especially love your curls. The Bartender sounds like quite a lovely dude and I’m glad things are going well. I’m about to start dating again after taking a lot of time off, so seeing people be treated respectfully and well is super-encouraging. Hope things continue to go well in both love…
Ugh, it sounds like the hiring manager is being a bit of a jerk. Hopefully, everything gets sorted out quickly and you can start soon!
This sounds like a damned good reason to walk around the whole house naked, just because you can. Go for it!
What a cute puppy! I actually had to get my ears pierced twice—the first time, the holes closed up. It wasn’t too bad: more painful than getting a tattoo, but significantly shorter in duration. That said, my piercing was done with a piercing gun at Claire’s, and I’ve heard of people having a better reaction to getting…
That’s so awesome that you’re getting more politically involved! And Modest Mouse is great.
Hello, Jezzies! I hope everyone’s having a good weekend. I have a question: how to you stay motivated to change your eating habits? I’ve been working on losing weight for a while, but I’ve been on a plateau since Christmas that I’m finding frustrating—it certainly doesn’t help that I really love pad Thai and takeout.…
Yay! I’m so excited—AND they’re going to be in town the weekend before my birthday. Concert time!
Yes! If you’re on her mailing list, there was a presale code (it’s DJANGOJANE) that you can use on her website to buy tickets.
I only learned this when my sister and I were both home for Christmas this year; her four-year-old is...dubiously reliable on the toilet cleanliness front, but my parents got a bidet installed in the guest bathroom when my gran was still alive and living with them, and it is still useful AF.
