As an Irish woman who has only ever seen guns in a museum, outside the US embassy in London or in Vancouver airport, that is a very depressing post.

Handing out notes to the crowd seems deeply weird. You’re there, the press is there, why not just say “our marriage is strong and we’re very much still together. Thank you.”?

Obligatory for Adele:

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been an oncologist for nearly 20 years, and there is no cancer that frightens me more than GBM. They are relentlessly and universally horrible.

I’m so sorry for your loss, and especially to such a terrible malady. A friend died from a glioblastoma a few years ago. He was in his early 30s, recently married, and had two children under age five. It’s truly breathtaking how fast and relentless this illness is.

I’m not familiar with Parker or The Wanted, but my dad died from a glioblastoma. They are in for some terrible times. I wish him and his wife strength and comfort.

When my mother uttered the words, “I AM speaking” two octaves below her regular speaking voice, a chill would shoot down my spine. It ran a close second to “let me tell you one thing”...which signaled to me that she was DOOOONE.

Burton’s star was still pretty high then, and Harry Potter was a kid’s book being made into a kid’s movie directed by the “Home Alone” guy, who was fresh off decided flop “Bicentennial Man” (Proud owner of a 36% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes).

The significance of “I’m speaking.” is known by those raised by a black woman who took no shit. Though for me it’s equivalent to “If you don’t shut up, I’m gonna give you a reason for your mouth to run.” She wasn’t talking about speaking, she was talking about the slobber running from crying and trying to catch your

James joining an underground resistance group fighting for the humanity of people like Lily definitely scores him points in my book though.

Yes, absolutely! (Unfortunately the equivalent of the police seems to be aurors...which is what Harry grew up to be...)

True, but the key difference between James and Snape, is James grew up.  In their final year, James dropped a lot of that ego, and THAT was when Lily warmed up to him.

His age also made his bullying of Harry, etc., so much creepier than it probably was supposed to be. You can see a man in his thirties still smarting from the wounds and being that level of inappropriate but someone in his fifties? CREEPY. It was only due to Rickman being  charisma in the shape of a man that it didn’t

Rickman was simply too splendid at making terrible people eyecatching to portray the Snape of the books. Not because he lacked skill but because he knew how to play an audience like a fiddle.

Agreed. I think a lot of this “worship” stemmed from casting such a talented, charismatic and humorous actor to play the role, thus softening Snape’s absolutely unacceptable behavior into “he’s just misunderstood” in the minds of many. Not that Rickman did that on purpose, but it wouldn’t be the first time a

It’s been widely understood that HP fandom surpassed Star Wars and the other older established fandoms a long way back, and the Snapewives are usually cited as the reason.

I disagree with you regarding Snape, specifically in his characterization in the text and Rowling’s intent with him. (Just to get this out of the way, though, Snape, Harry’s parents (had they lived), Remus, and Sirius were all actually 31 in the first book, which really sort of changes how you look at them.) I’m

Oh definitely. But there were a lot of middle aged women on there who should've known better. Guessing they probably moved on to Twilight eventually.

Super excited to see Jezebel picking up those ice-cold Fandom Wank takes from over a decade ago. Good times.

I’m not surprised. Even Manson had his groupies.
