You know, seeing your other comments, I think you may actually have the same problem I have with it only from a more personal POV. Thus, I direct you to this video I found that really put into words my problems with this idea:

Well, in Gallifreyan the "Time Lord" name may not be gender-specific. But in English, the TARDIS found "Time Lord" to be the most appropiate translation (because English) and thus was stuck as gender-specific.

Also, I always find the detox scene completely hilarious. I love the times they show the Doctor is not human at all.

This comment section is why I love the A.V. Club. After spending the first two hours in the acid steam house that was the Youtube section coming here was a welcome sign of relief. And I'm feeling more hopeful about this casting by the minute (not quite there yet, though).

I used "The Unicorn and the Wasp" to introduce my sister to it. She loved detective stories and so I thought it was a good idea. And then she liked how bonkers Ten was and the rest is history.

Why kill him when the whole point is to imprison him in the Pandorica? And… they do. Eleven gets it completely wrong that time and it was almost the end of the universe (until it being the end allowed for wibbly wobbly and you know the rest).

Of course she can, same way the Doctor was an inspiration for me once I started watching. But it's different for boys to look at a woman being caring and emotional than a man doing the same, because it's more socially acceptable for women to do so. A boy may see the Doctor and go, "I believe in her values" but may

Well yes, but generally nowadays role models for girls are quite positive in regards to not being stereotypical and allowing for all sides of them; while there is noone quite like the Doctor for boys. Not that I'm aware of.

I think she's aware of how much resistance there will be at first. I hope she can take it.

I hope he gets Sarah Dollard and Jamie Mathieson, they are great at character work and that is what Chibnall is mostly about I think.

Now we know where the first Doctor got his face from, then?

What I hope Chibnall brings with him is emotional consequences story to story, as DW seems to have too little of that lately (or ever).

My thoughts exactly.

God damn, I only knew her from Broadchurch. This is wonderful. I'm much more hopeful now.

People tend to think about the problems it will present for her but there are benefits, too. We are so used to seeing a male Doctor that we got used to how people react to him. But she will probably be less threatening to other people and so people will probably become more trusting towards her. She can probably use

But how many actual Doctors have a doctorate in cheese-making?

I'm really excited about Chibnall mainly because he said he was scared the BBC would turn his plans down, so it must be something really bold. I hope it wasn't about the Doctor being a woman, though.

It would be hilarious if the Doctor can suddenly drive really really well.

This still makes me laugh. Way to introduce a new Doctor with a bang.

I hope they do something like this.
