Hmm. I never thought of it like that.

It is a great movie, in a lot of ways. It just doesn't deliver the meaningless jingoism and cynicism people expected from blockbusters in 2000.

Manson hasn't really been "shock rock" post SMELLS LIKE CHILDREN. He just makes fun of that image a lot, because people insist on repeating it.

China Mieville, Michael Swanwick, and Jeff VanderMeer, although they're all on the weird end of genre.

Yup. Her raps are weird and will age well. The rest is syrupy cliched pop with the words "tonight" and "young" in the chorus.

I've never heard True Romance, but for another vacuous "I'm awesome; fuck you" pop princess record, SUCKER is waaayyy more fun than most. I'd say it's an A-.

I still regard Monster pretty highly, but I don't have it, and haven't heard it in years.

I was half-joking, but those are both abstract terms for describing the depth of someone's personality, so it's just weird to me that "one dimensional" has taken over, as it's a less concrete metaphor, and isn't meant to imply anything different than what "two dimensional" meant already.

Yeah. It would also help if SNL had some writers who knew the term they were looking for was "two dimensional girl" and not "one dimensional girl," who we would not even be able to see.

On record, she's really good. That performance was not. Both songs had all their joy extracted from them.

It's an opinion I'm afraid to admit too often, but I'm with you on Zodiac. It's so dull and "removed", it's almost insensitive to the lives lost.

I would agree with that. It's technically very accomplished, meticulously composed, and acted, and yet fails to leave all that lasting of an impression.

I'm not sure why we're comparing them, but yeah, Lynch is more of a pure "artist" than PTA, and his great films are better. Now for the real question: Who has the more insufferable fan base, Anderson, Fincher, or Nolan?

You didn't hear applause in the precocious moment when Dolan pushes the frame into a widescreen ratio, thus expressing the characters' freedom. It was the sound of all those critics banging their heads against the chairs in front of them.

I know where you're coming from, but one of the main reasons there's so much resentment and bitterness towards Corgan from other industry people is that he's always saying shit like this. Ultimately, you don't know who contributed what beyond Corgan's "official statements" (because he's the only one being granted

Actually, I do think Corgan is one of the few interesting celebrities around.

Yeah, Oceania was good. I haven't really given the new one much of a listen yet, but it sounds too simple, and the Pumpkins are better when they're more self-indulgent.

People are becoming more self-righteous as they're becoming more closed-minded. Few truly possess empathy that extends beyond their own side of an immediate cause. It's becoming a big problem. There's no longer real thought or understanding, from either side of the bullshit "gender war." Social groups need to identify

Like it or not, he is the boss-man. He can pull the "I can do this without you" BS that narcissists in power live by. At the same time, expressing grievance with your employer for Twitter-validation is a stupid-ass move.

I think the film is a little overrated. There's nothing specifically bad about it (except the too obvious children's-story-as-allegory angle), but for me it didn't leave that powerful of an impression.
