It’s not about prevention its about detection. The car will say “There is a tiny drunk human moving into the street, I will now stop in time because I’m going at the correct speed in order to adjust to this event happening in this neighborhood and I noticed it in time.”

Lol yes, I know my outlook tends to be a bit optimistic.

It’s not about prediction; its about detection.

Unlike human drivers it would be constantly paying attention and would be able to correctly adjust before its too late. Human’s can make snap decisions but they’re rarely 100% aware of their surroundings.

I think this is what everyone seems to be forgetting. Autonomous vehicles should never be in this situation in the first place. This becomes even more true as the roads become more and more saturated with self-driving cars.

The irony of it all is that a citizen did this and not the cop. It’s almost as if the cop is there to not protect and serve but just to clean up the mess left after something happens.
