Now listen up, you troglodytes. You’re going to come at me about how this totally erases the OBVIOUS RAMPANT SEXISM. As if the sexism that Ellie faced was un-sexism because it was a guy all along. And as if it wasn’t still wholly indicative of the experience that women face trying to enter esports.
She did get pregnant, and she made no secret about it. She has serious mental health issues, as she was convinced that they were in a ‘relationship,’ and was really vocal. I wasn’t around when it happened (I was overseas), but I suuuuuuuuure do remember the family ripples. I honestly don’t know if no one pressed…
“bring a female attendant in” is not a solution! It would undoubtedly lead to very low paid (definitely part-time) female workers who are there as tokens and not actual bulkheads against abuse. Frankly, the entire place should be shut down for not noticing in her day-to-day care and vital signs that she was pregnant.…
Shouldn’t there just be cameras in this type of situation? It’s 2019 and it’s not expensive to set up cameras and it could catch other forms of abuse.
That “Male staff may only enter a female room with a female staff member” policy is going to last about five minutes, tops. Nursing homes are already massively understaffed, they’re not going to be able to spare an extra staff member for that, there will be a lot of “just this once” and “whatever, I trust you”.
Don’t forget male visitors, even (or especially) those related to the patient, as well as consultants, repairmen, etc. The mind boggles.
“Possible” abuse? How the heck is this not “definitely” abuse?
I don;t believe so, they would probably ask for voluntary samples and then take a look at those who refused- or sent their friend in their place
I’m genuinely curious on the civil rights aspect of this. Can they compel all male employees to submit to a DNA test? Legally?
It’s long-term care, they don’t care and they don’t check hormones regularly. They watch vitals, see any dramatic changes, otherwise all they do is feed/wash/turn/diaper.
This story is shocking.
There are many fucked up things in play here, but my first question is: why would someone be kept in a vegetative state for a DECADE? Was it written into her will, and there is nobody to override it? Who is paying the bills?
DNA test the baby and the male staff.
YES.
“...none of the staff at the Hacienda HealthCare facility knew the patient was pregnant until she went into labor and began moaning.”
Oh my god. This immediately brought to mind the scene in Kill Bill where the hospital attendant had been assaulting her while she was in her coma and just jesus fucking christ. This poor woman.
How is it even remotely possible that a woman can be near-constantly monitored, and no one noticed (1) a change in her physical appearance OR (2) the various internal changes (hormonal levels, etc.) associated with pregnancy??
