1) It sends the message that it's okay to fail because the taxpayer will bail you out. That introduces moral hazard, undercuts corporate responsibility, and paves the way for more corporate failures and future bailouts.

I wouldn't consider nuclear power to be "dirty". The reactors built now are much safer than those built in the past, and if / when we start using the Yucca Mountain depository the spent fuel won't be an issue either. There is very little risk of radiation spill and long term health effects compared to the coal power…
