In the vague recesses of my mind, I recall a version of The Scarlet Pimpernel with Grant and Elizabeth McGovern.

I write pulp novels (nothing you've likely heard of) and I have a personal rule. Nobody who is a writer is a lead character, not just because I like to avoid naval gazing and think write what you know is BS but sitting at a computer typing is boring. I do get that an investigative reporter can stand in for a…
The opening party in the Rosalind Russell film, Auntie Mame with all the 1920s bohemians, sushi and bathtub gin.
I loved the British one, but if I were going to make a request, it would be to explain the stuff with the fake (or not fake) psychic guy.
There were - and I suppose are - people who cannot accept that a local tribe could have provided the colonists food, shelter, safety and a far better lifestyle they had in the colony. Even the clothes they had would have been easier to wear and more appropriate for the climate. It's pretty easy to see why the…
I know, I found myself nitpicking - saying they would have spoken more like Shakespeare's English and then I remembered it's a show with a headless horseman that appears to be able to see and hear. So, roll along.
They are definitely researching the DNA of various Native American groups to find any people distantly related to European descendants of the colonists.
The Onstar joke made me laugh, and I hate laughing at product placement, but this show does lots of things that I shouldn't like and I end up liking them.
Thank you for succinctly articulating why I like this crazy ass show so much. Bechdel test!
I love that he just despises talking about The Sound of Music, even though he's probably the best thing in that movie. Even more so that a major part of my coming of age was suddenly not caring about the kids, the favorite things or the nazis and simply finding something very interesting about the captain.
I think Star Trek: The Next Generation's All Good Things… was a fantastic ending, not only because it featured Q and provided an ending to the "test" storyline that began in the pilot, but it did use the science fiction premise to create a real sense of closure for all the characters. Their fates made sense, and in…
I read in another article that he wanted to know more about Gretchen and Elliot, and Gilligan brought them back because of his request (and also because Gilligan agreed with him that they should return).
I think the show tried to subtly defend Skylar against some of the torrent of rage against her in the last few episodes. I think she was very like Walt in the beginning in that she was trapped and fearful of their economic situation and it didn't become her. She was difficult. However, she was also happy to sell crap…
Rand also would have loved to see a bunch of superstitious, anti-science, ill-educated morons ignore her militant atheism.
Totally agree. Witch persecutions were brutal and insane and completely evil (and they still happen in some parts of the word, too). The whole Katrina business is my least favorite part of the show for that reason. Also, philosophers, patriots, warriors, teachers, generals = boys. Witches = girls. Although, maybe…
It never even occurred to me that the kid wouldn't be rescued, more because our heroes were trying to rescue him in the last act (Fake out!) Sure, shows do kill off kids these days, but there didn't seem to me a moment that they might have gone that route. The pearl clutching seems a little much on a show with so many…
Sure, this was a fine mess, but damn John Cho was scary. Scarier than the witch, that's for sure.
Zombie Pez Dispenser John Cho was easily the best thing in the episode, as he was scary as hell. A close second was kindly ghost/flashback Clancy Brown.
Not only did he die, he died in a legitimately scary way with the shadowy demon coming out of the mirror to cut his throat as he begged for mercy. This show is so silly, yet it has genuine creepiness, too.
Well, this is a step up for this feature. Usually the song hater is sneering at women, not the song!
