Exactly. Like, the fact that we’re STILL trying to pretend “this movie is perfect and the only people who don’t like it are racist and sexist” is such a weird take considering even the stars and especially Luke Skywalker himself are going “nah it wasn’t great.”
That’s not ObiWanJalopy is saying at all - he’s saying the exact inverse of this: that his opinion that TLJ wasn’t good is not objectively wrong. OP didn’t say that anyone who liked TLJ is objectively wrong, he is quite fairly reveling in the fact that his opinion that TLJ is less likely to be unfairly labeled right…
I don’t remember if that was all on Rose but yeah, that’s pretty awful too. It’s kind of nice that the puppy-horses get ten, fifteen minutes of freedom before they’re obviously found and rounded up immediately as soon as Rose and Finn leave, but I bet the kids would’ve had a better chance in the wild.
I hated most of Last Jedi, and I’m glad the filmmakers are voicing agreement with my problems with it.
If I were Laura Dern I’d be upset that they cast me as a bad leader with a bad plan who sacrificed herself badly. Even if it served the main theme of ‘Leaders don’t always make good decisions and you should question them when it looks like they’re doing something stupid.’, it was still kind of a lousy part.
The nerds won, and then we found out that the nerds are worse than jocks. At least the jocks didn’t have decades of built up rage and resentment they wanted to unleash the moment they got the tiniest bit of power.
You might have a point if he had said anything like it. If a 5-star chef says, “McDonald’s is fine, but it’s not haute cuisine,” and your interpretation of that is, “Hey, he said you’re all a bunch of pigs choking down your swill,” I don’t think the problem is with Scorcese.
“A), liking the most popular film franchise in human history doesn’t make you a nerd”
Not what anyone said, moron.
Counter point: disregard all articles on Medium besides Drew Magary. Medium’s just for hot takes anyways, and Drew Magary has the hottest takes.
Oh, I take my comment back completely. I forgot about that movie and read The Handmaiden as The Handmaid’s Tale. You are actually spot-on in your assessment of The Handmaiden as it is ridiculously porn-y. I found it to be a fun movie when I saw it at a film festival but was surprised at how seriously people were…
AV Club wanted Joker to fail in the same way they wanted Answer the Call to succeed — the reviews in either case were tempered by that desire, and it’s not like this is either unusual for this site or news. Pop culture here is primarily a vehicle for political whinging, and it’s pretty clear when AV Club chooses a…
If Joker is truly one of the 20 worst movies of 2019 you haven’t watched enough movies.
You can prattle on about how some AV Club reviewers didn’t like it for “reasons” but until those reasons are explicitly spelled out, they can safely be put into a box called “hot takes”.
TL;DR: thou doth protest too much, methinks.
Trump got less votes than Romney and still won.
That is a bad sentence.
Cue all butthurt panicked reactionaries to praise putting Joker on this list.
So ‘incel’ is just a conflation with ‘neocon shitbag’ then? I find all this “reaction to the reaction to critics’ reaction of Joker” is super murky, because it seems to all just be a way to signal your political leaning, and as someone who thinks Joker is a good film, and The Last Jedi is a good film, which slot do I…
Nah man, see, when people say false things that one agrees with, it’s just hyperbole.
NOTE: Apparently flat-out falsehood is just “hyperbole” provided the audience likes what is being said at any given moment.
The movie’s nowhere near the best thing I watched, but the incel thing has me confused. Are there actually incels that laud the film? I only have seen the connection made through criticism of Joker.
