It is not eternity that would get boring, and this episode doesn’t claim that. It is eternity without the possibility of an end that would get boring. It’s not natural. There becomes no point to anything and all you end up doing forever is instantly gratifying yourself.

The man in the tux? You guessed it.....

Got to point out how much the invention of SteadiCam really MAKES this movie. The scenes are so intimate because you seem to be right there in the room in a way that traditional cinematography cannot achieve.

His movies are often stunningly realized and at least attempting to tackle more abstract concepts, so he might also be a painter?

I’m to the point where I just accept it as a style. In Inception for example, I’d be mad if he was aiming for Gondry, but he wasn’t. He made a kickass spy film that involved dreams.

The Wicker Cat

As someone here said last week. If they don’t stick the landing it’s the journey. That landing I think came very close. To humanize a superhero/god in the moments of death Manhattan/Cal was genuinely great and it was surprisingly moving. The mechanics to get there were fine in a kind of techno-forward dance club

It reminds me of the heartbreaking perfect ending to Arrival, where Amy Adams is well aware that if she enters a relationship it will lead to a daughter who will die far too young, but happily does it anyway because the good will far outweigh the bad.

I miss Hormel Black Label Bacon.

I got a Community notification for this?

Here’s to the best of AV Club gimmick commenters (mostly) past and (some) present.  Here’s to Cookie Monster, who can drop insightful comments on whatever topic is at hand in the perfectly rendered diction of the blue-furred crumbly dessert fiend.  Here’s to ZMF, who taught me all about ownage, and what Statham movies

These lists have been a good way to spike traffic for like a decade, so, again, acting as if this is a particularly shameless/new way of doing things is bizarre to me.

If this list was around in the 80's, Star Wars wouldn’t be on it.

Did I miss it or are there no MCU films on this list? What, did Scorsese put this list together or something?

The thing is, before this week’s episodes, this season was almost unanimously praised. The cast was great - diverse, engaging, older than usual - the type of players we don’t normally see on the show (4 African-American players made the merge, the first (?) time this has ever happened, and Janet, a 61-year-old woman,

I don’t know where beloved Av Club commenter Hooded Justice is today, but I expect he’s happy.

“These aren’t the laminated menus and assorted coasters you’re looking for.”

I prefer the Samuel L Bronkowitz version....

It didn’t seem to exist at all. There were the two guys escorting Jon out of the city, but there were only Wildlings at Castle Black. I think it was just a ruse to trick Grey Worm. The Night’s Watch no longer exists, and everyone else knew Jon would run off with the Wildings.
