What that piece of scum did is reprehensible, but I don’t think family members should be required to make public statements about their families’ horrorific crimes while they are still processing all of it.

Deplorable. Tamir Rice had no justice. 12 year old and 11 year old children of color get no justice. It’s sad that I have to Thank God this girl is still living... How warped is it that handcuffed and held at gun point is unnacceptabke and still isn’t even as bad as it gets for other innocent children like her.

It’s been a minute since I read Coates’s full works but what I recall was how he tied White Supremacy with the American Dream and thus with capitalism. I don’t see Coates as espousing or advocating capitalism. If anything, he pointed out the flaws and dangers of capitalism in his earlier works.
Having sisters and mothers doesn’t prevent men from assaulting. I’ve noticed that people tend to compartmentalize how they treat people. You can be a saint to mom and daughter all week and then date rape a woman on Saturday.
