Yeah, this isn’t a new thing. Blackface hasn’t been ‘acceptable’ in *white* mainstream American culture for like 30 years. Still, every couple of months some idiot gives it a shot and get called out and plays dumb. There’s no excuse for ignorance.

I pretty much have to believe it’s the privilege, since nothing else explains the stubbornness of the “Hillary would have done the exact same terrible things, but you’d allow it to happen because she’d couch it in the right language!” response.

“Insurance is boring!!! I don't even NEED insurance or social security! Why should I have to pay for something I don't use?!?"

I usually counter that with, “Say what you like about Hillary Clinton, but I think she could’ve avoided picking a fight with Canada.”

I truly can’t wrap my mind around these people who would rather have no progress (or straight up regression) rather than not enough progress in favor of angry revolution. It’s like they don’t understand how violent and bloody revolutions are.

I once got into a heated discussion with a Bernie-or-bust friend who sat out 2016. He seemed to think that a) they’re both the same and b) even if Hillary’s policies wouldn’t hurt people as much as trump’s policies, it’s just not enough, therefore c) there’s no point in voting for someone who isn’t as ideaologically…

Not only that, they also stridently don’t recognize a sinking ship as dangerous. “Great!” they holler, “Let it sink, then we’ll start all over with a new ship!” 

And many of them *are* inspiring in their own ways! Many of them believe the things you believe, want the things you want and work to achieve those things -- sometimes in sexy, grand, inspiring ways, but more often in wonky, boring, “she’s fine” ways.
