Apparently, Harry hates the term “Megxit” because it implies Meghan was the one who wanted to leave the U.K., though it is a convenient pun. Perhaps “Susxit”

Harris is the best pick, and if she vacates her Senate seat, Gov Gavin Newsom can appoint Adam Schiff or Katie Porter to that Senate seat, either of whom would be fantastic - and will mortify the Senate Republicans.
He’s going to pick Kamala Harris. No other candidate makes any sense. Warren is too old and too white. Klobuchar is too much like paint drying and too white. Most importantly, she pulls in the same demographic Biden already does. I love Demmings and Abrams, but Abrams has no federal experience and hasn’t even won a…
Gwyneth Paltrow also went for a walk. What could that also mean? [Daily Mail]
God, I loved this show. It was such a wild-ass ride, and just never let up. All the soundtracks are amazing as well. The actors also played it completely straight, but with a sense of humor, an insane balancing act that was absolutely required for this bizarro thing to succeed.
Do not believe anything coming out of Florida. Do not believe Ron DeSantis. It’s that simple. This lady, with her accompanying personal problems, is more trustworthy than DeSantis.
Used to be the advice was to drive to the police station if you thought something was up.
Perhaps it is my childhood loins talking, but I remember this and Legends of the Fall as peak sexy Brad Pitt. Long hair and brooding? Yes, please!
The take that Interview with the Vampire* is a terrible film is a valid one. It’s one of those films that’s so very... well, just so very - that it stands outside of conventional tastefulness and you have to decide if you’re willing to go with it or not. [c.f., on a vampiric theme, Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula]. I…
I agree re: Cruise and Pitt. I was goth-adjacent in high school (some music, some of the look, but I couldn’t commit to the full aesthetic because I’m lazy like that) and had devoured all of Rice’s books by the time this came out. I was appalled by Cruise’s casting but found him surprisingly good. Pitt on the other…
I saw this movie 16 times in the theater (there was a dollar movie theater very close to my high school, back when the dollar movie was $1.05 after tax). I have seen it probably 14 more times since, and I still love it, though I will concede that parts of it are cheesy as hell.
The performances really saved this, and Cruise got to display his comedic chops, which don’t get enough onscreen time—he’s got terrific timing. Louis was boring but frankly he’s boring in the book too. It’s the story he’s telling that’s interesting.
Yep; it was a meeting of the minds to create a perfect storm of terrible.
Norma had an extremely messed up life way back to her childhood. This does not surprise me. Just another case of evangelicals being just as shitty as I imagine them to be.
AGREED. Tom Cruise is a delight in this film. The scene of him dancing with Claudia’s dead mom tells you everything you need to know about this movie and it’s glorious. Megan’s take is bad.
Ha, I never made the connection that Cruise was just playing himself, but that is spot on. I wish he would pick more roles like this one.
I agree. Neil Jordan is a really good director. One of the better vampire movies of the last thirty years. But some people like Twilight.
