Oh boy. I am so ready for the Oscars. I hate how stupid and white and male they are, but damnit I tune in every year and have since I was a small child. This year there have been quite a few great films so here’s what I can think of off the top of my head:

I feel like the awfulness of the bodice/mesh has led people to seriously miss how terrible the sleeves are.

Pence is a party flak, he does what he’s told. Only a problem while they hold the congress.

Yeah, never forget that “tough on crime” is racist code for “puts a lot of black people in jail”.

I knew this from the start. That the ONLY way that women have enjoyed any power coming out publicly about sexual abuse WAS BECAUSE those being accused were part of “liberal Hollywood” so conservatives embraced the message, but ONLY BECAUSE it hurt “liberal Hollywood”. Now that it once again encroaches on republicans;

This. Figured he would be the next one.

Idk - there are just two weeks left in the movie and a move from the studio in response to the ‘Reckoning’ would’ve happened before this point in the production IMO. There have been rumors of a story dropping for weeks and the studio damn well knows.

I don’t think Pence has the following that Trump has, which means his chances for reelection aren’t as strong. Which made me feel good, until I started thinking that maybe he could get behind starting a war to stay in power because of the whole not changing presidents during wartime precedent and I got depressed all

I don’t know WHAT it is about it but I HATE that skin-toned net on dresses. I’d rather it be see-through white or black or whatever, but the SKIN TONE just reminds me of robbers with pantyhose on their faces or a Princess Jasmine costume from 1993.

You are so on point.

There are so many young girl victims on the other side of things that people are willing to shrug away. This double standard is totally about men not wanting to feel victimized or on the same level as a woman.

Scientology infests Hollywood like a toenail fungus that’s bought a condo. Remember how John Travolta, who has surely been up to some very dubious stuff, has been given multiple passes over the years? That’s Scientology for you!

Daniel Day Lewis’ last picture before retirement ‘Phantom Thread’ comes out Dec 25. Would expect to see that get a nom for best picture/best actor. And since he claims he’s quitting acting, I’d think they would just hand him the award as a parting gesture.

There are a lot of legit contenders - Ladybird, Get Out, Three Billboards, Call Me By Your Name, etc, etc. It leads me to wonder if the Academy won’t coalesce around something feel good. I think “The Post” could be a real contender for Best Picture, while the other films are rewarded with Oscars in other categories:

His case is especially bad considering that the victims 1) actually filed police reports, 2) did so years BEFORE the Weinstein fall out 3) allege violent rape and not “just” harassment, 4) Scientology is currently in the spotlight for exactly this kind of shit and 5) these particular victims have a lot of public good

The bigger budget ones still to come are Spielberg’s The Post, which will probably do well critically and commercially, and del Toro’s The Shape of Water. Gary Oldman will probably win best actor for playing Churchill.

Not disagreeing. Just want to attach some numbers.

Three Billboards is supposed to be great and both Frances McDormand and Woody are scandal-free, truth-telling pros. I do wonder if attendance will be down. I can’t imagine Matt Damon or George Clooney are looking forward to the press room.

yes. succinct way to put it. + the fact that he even said this shows that he presumes men to be the primary subject + listener. that’s how these people think. women aren’t “we, the people” - we are sexual commodities and baby factories.

I think it was this story that someone mentioned something similar under, but re: which group Trump voters consider themselves more similar to, that also has to do with them thinking they are more likely to gain the money that would necessitate worrying about things like the estate tax then losing so much money that
