I’ve been reading Jez since ‘07, and have been grey ever since the switch to Kinja. I still don’t understand how people get ungreyed, because some of them are horrible.

Right, like how they talk about affordable small town living. As a black person, I am not interested in living in Trump country.

Your last paragraph is everything, and REALLY important.

Ramen is your enemy if you’re trying to prevent hypertension and strokes. Poor health habits were the main reason my father died early.

Thank you! So much of this is easier as a man. Fewer grooming expenses, access to $$ jobs with or without education, fewer safety concerns if living in a tent or car, etc. I think this is easiest as high earning couples w/o kids.

Colleges outside the USA are often much cheaper. If your children are young enough, they have time to learn another language.

IKR? I remember sitting at a bus stop, alone, when a guy driving by offered a ride. I declined. 20 minutes later he comes back to do the same, gets out of his car, and starts talking. I am so grateful that the bus showed up soon afterward.

Yep, they wanna be comfortable and maintain the status quo, which requires oppression, AND be thought of as neutral to great people. Those things don’t go together.

I am also interested from hearing about black people who pass as NBPoC in terms of international traveling, compared to their non-passing counterparts.

That makes sense to me. However, I am curious about the dynamics of a bunch of single parent university students with mixed kids. So there were a bunch of students in romantic/sexual relationships with people of other backgrounds, but few chose to marry?

Yep, for example, the white dudes loudly complaining about American women and how non-American women are better are generally viewed as trash.

I love dog side-eye in real life!

Do what you can with the knowledge you have. I never met my uncle because he is (was?) a horrible person. After all, he was abusive to my dad and molested his own kids.

Music is generally for sale, unless it is sacred or something. Do you only listen to instrumental music? It’s pretty common for music to tell stories about people, and all people have an identity. How many love songs are clearly referring to a straight couple, for example?

It wasn’t until my 30s that I realized that white people’s entitledness exists on the dance floor, and even more so with white men. In predominantly POC clubs and bars, people generally dance with some level of awareness so as to avoid bumping into other people. White folks don’t care.

On a semi-related note, Jr.’s daughter looks kinda like a baby Ivanka.

As a cyclist, this is interesting. So many drivers and pedestrians hate cyclists, and in NYC, one of the best way to kill a person and get away with it is to drive a car and hit them with it as they are standing, walking, or on a bike. If not labeled terrorism, I think the response would be different.

What’s up with brown people of Mexican ancestry denying their indigenous heritage?

The reality is that $$ is what motivates many people. $$ is why many leaders and businesspeople have publicly denounced the Muslim ban and supported people subject to the whims of DACA. I have read some Latino activists state that the focus of DACA should be their humanity, not their role as economic contributors to
