Hating blackness is a problem b/c even if a person has a non-black spouse, their children need a positive sense of blackness for healthy emotional development. The kids need to not hate their black side for their well-being.

Her action means that her children live in a less hostile and more welcoming environment. That is extremely important to the emotional development of minority children. 

Moving neighborhoods and switching churches are important steps that benefit her children. Soooo many white parents of brown kids, including mixed kids, never make the effort to live, worship, and socialize in more diverse environments for the benefit of their children.

Now is a good time for the “don’t let a girl/woman demean you just because you have a crush on her” talk.

That (and younger) is when it’s ok to ask and touch if you get consent.

Well, many people have not bowed down to something greater than them, like nature, and that’s why we have climate change. Secular Western thinking is not 100% good, given how destructive unregulated capitalism can be. 

Church allowed black people a physical break during slavery. I think that’s why black churches have such long services.

Right, her choice to move churches for her children was a great move. There are far too many stories of brown children with white parents who grew up in predominantly white, hostile communities. Some of those children are now adults and recommend the changes  the author made.

Right, both MLK, Jr. and Malcolm X were religious leaders.
