Yeah, I don’t get it either. Well, I think white people view blondes the way US society views roses — they’re considered the best, even though there’s tons of other great flowers with beauty and nice fragrances. It makes me especially sad when PoC buy into these ideas.

It’s also a bigger deal on the coasts because many people move there as adults, leaving behind their family and friends. Starting over as an adult is challenging, especially when you don’t know anyone in your new location.

And yet, where are the collectives of black men with $$$ coming together to create more black owned institutions - hospitals, schools, factories, grocery stores, banks, etc.? With our own businesses, we could hire our own and be more independent. I know some exist on a smaller scale, but why so very small?

So once again, a black woman is supposed to do a “man’s” job of asking someone out? I thought that men find that emasculating? Which one is it?

For real, I was in a poor part of town with coworkers. We carpooled to get lunch. The driver saw a pregant pitbull and stopped to try to get her in the car b/c she volunteers with a dog fostering group. I was in the back of the car with a broken leg, and felt so relieved that the dog kept her distance. This coworker…

I have seen comments about abandoned dogs that are similar. In our post-2008 economy, people are more likely to get evicted, especially in rapidly gentrifying areas.

Right, and it’s important to note that many sundown towns were created by running “others” out of town by threat of violence.

The pressure is real. There are wealthy communities throughout the US where people who aren’t skinny or muscular stand out, and parts of L.A. fit the bill.

The Malibu Barbie look influences brunettes like Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez, and even redheads like Lindsay Lohan. Not everybody needs to lighten their hair.
