I can’t get over how everyone speaking about this FYRE fiasco keep talking about people being “safe”. You can almost hear the hushed tones around the word. Give me a break. A day or two stuck on an island in the Bahamas with apparently no water or plumbing system admittedly sounds awful, but I really don’t think

I love how even Mark Zuckerberg was not important enough for them to open the China cabinet and use the good setting. Plastic plates, cups and cutlery for guests... why am I not surprised these folks voted for Trump?

Only white people can excuse a white person walking up to two black people fighting and punching one while truly believing the black person punched by the white person deserved whatever they got because they were already fighting.

Annoying how they run their racist asses in here and ASSUME that black people see

I cannot get enough of this Fyre Festival Failure. Its SO funny to me. Keep the updates coming!

Hi - Thanks for your comment and perspective. You’re right: I mentioned the efforts to recall the judge–Judge Karlin–but I never explained in the piece that despite those efforts, she was still re-elected. (It’s also interesting to me that she left the bench in 1997).

Whatever, maybe I’m a sucker but I actually liked the ad. Life is complicated but some things aren’t - if you’ve worked with someone to build something and had a positive experience, why wouldn’t you sit down and socialise with them. Engaging with each other more and straying from our self-imposed “camps” is what we

I was a teenager living in the suburbs of LA when all of this went down. All of us in the African American community were beyond upset by the shooting of Latasha Harlins. On top of that, the judge who let the shooter off with the fine was re-elected the following year. One cannot look at this without looking at

I saw the ad. If it was me? I would have left the anti trans bigot at the bar by himself. I am not sitting down and smiling with a guy that thinks I shouldn’t exist. I don’t have to pander to some bigots feelings either.

Her story was featured in the OJ: Made in America documentary. Otherwise, I would have never heard of her before now.

It was a long time ago (last time I was in California was 1996), so all I remember are touch screen maps where the user could see the location of the museum just blocks away from neighborhoods hit by the riots, and marvel at the economic contrast in such a small geographic area.

Back in 1996 I visited LA’s Museum of Tolerance, and a lot of the exhibits were about the 1992 riots. I read everything and watched all the videos and I had never heard of Latasha Harlins until reading this article. I hope the MoT has updated everything and now tells her story.

lol for real! ugh i can’t stand it.

You mean other posts on The Root? Nah. That’s black people problems. Unless they write about Bernie; then they gotta come in here and tell minorities to stop bitching about their hard fought issues and give deference to this old white man who wants to focus on other white people who have their feelings hurt and vote

I get that “Blame Wypipo” gets you clicks and high-fives, but like it or not you need us to effect any kind of lasting change.

Oh wypipo. Never change.

(PS Michael, I am counting this as a shout out lol)
