I really wish they would split the light-duty Silverado, F150, Sierra, and Ram 1500 from the heavy-duty F250+, Silverado/Sierra HD, and Ram 2500. It skews everything. Tundra and Titan don't compete with F250 or Silverado HD.

It may seem like the oddball but they sell way more 2GR-FE vehicles than any other GR engine vehicle.

The drivetrain layout on this car is extremely interesting.

I work in Toyota development.

The 1GR for the U.S. is manufactured in TMMAL in Alabama which is why I didn't include any of the other vehicles that use this engine. But at any rate, it's always been difficult to put a 4-cylinder in most tall vehicles. Look at any small SUV with a 4-banger. They struggle to get over 25 mpg.

I don't think so. The reason everything is so old on that car is because it's so difficult to mark it up.

I suspect this segment is going to heat up with the Colorado coming so it'll make a cheaper truck in the end.

It just costs a lot of money. The 1GR isn't used in that many things. People will spend a few grand more to buy the V8 Tundra and get only marginally worse fuel economy. Percentage of V6 Tundras is low. Whereas the percentage of I4 Tacomas is low and most people will get the 1GR. The 2GR is really the volume engine.

Toyota makes so little profit off the Tacoma, it's hard to discount it. Tundra has a bit more margin it seems. Plus it just got facelifted which might explain an increase in sales.

It's a Texas Longhorn, Mikey!

The plant is not moving. Erlanger admins are moving to TX and production engineers are moving to the plant in Georgetown, KY. While purchasing is moving from Erlanger to Michigan.

While these two companies do have tech centers there, they also have tech centers in California. Hyundai's is in Irvine and Toyota's is in Torrance and Gardena. They're R&D centers and do product development.

For most of these people with Toyota on their resume, moving isn't the only option.

So you're saying everyone that lives here is irresponsible because the cost of living is higher? Still sounds pretty douchey to me. The reason why it's so expensive in California is because people want to live in the big cities in California.

Ultimate driving machine but I have to put the top up to fit two golf bags.

This exact reason is why Hyundai is so good. A lot of people left Toyota's tech center when given the option to move to MI or leave the company. They left and went to work for Hyundai/KIA.

Your argument sounded reasonable until the end when your inner douche came out.

They're not really that boring. They're as boring as you make them out to be. The cars are generally pretty powerful but a little floaty. So is the S-class though. Interiors are can be pretty bad on some cars but the same applies to the Germans. Why would I want leatherette in my BMW?

Eh. Boring people drive all kinds of cars, including the German 3.

Torque converter connected to engine side clutch. That's how I would do it. Start the vehicle in partial lock-up to avoid jerkiness from dual clutch engagement/disengagement. Full lockup above a certain RPM and output shaft speed.
