The combat is most certainly not a mess. It’s fast and very technical, but like most good fighting games you need to actually play it to understand all the maneuvering that’s going on.

I think artists and creators have every right to make a work that expresses their own personal views (which are probably going to be political in some form or another) and not talk about their work in literal, political terms. That’s the job of us consumers, to interpret the work given to us.
