Ding! Ding! Ding! You are correct! That 2 billion would be put to better use as a childcare stimulus or any other program to alleviate the results of raising children in poverty. Honestly all this is going to be is paying off more talking heads to espouse knuckle-down tactics for discipline. The problem is a lack of

I was at Morehouse last night and heard the speech. The reaction to the word uterus is really ridiculous. Killer Mike’s speech was amazing, just like his other introduction of Sanders when he was in Atlanta on November 23. Focusing on it reduces and confuses the point.

I’m looking at your summary there and parts of that bill sound like they’re good. $9.04 billion on crime prevention and rehab. is a good thing. Prohibiting bias influencing the death penalty is a good thing. The rest is either mixed or bad though.

Omnibus bill adds more money for policing and training. If you want to have a progressive police force you need to spend a huge amount on training, at the moment the US lags behind other countries and recently they had to go to Scotland to see how they are trained.

I kind of hate how “The Slot” is a vagina joke, too.

and that’s without even mentioned the negative talk that teachers receive when all these programs go live...it is a really weird thing to watch. It all makes “sense” when you say it...but in the end it is a giant cop out. If you don’t address the big issues...throwing money at the institutions is pointless.

According to a post by Charmed221 above:

Yeah correcting school discipline really isn’t going to do a damn thing if the children’s parents are still working poor, have to work two jobs to make ends meet, and can’t afford the basic needs like food and healthcare. Plus if there are no jobs available or people can’t afford college once they graduate you are

Yes i am “berniesplaining” because i point out the facts.

I mean I realize it was Bill Clinton’s crime bill, but why does Bernie seem to be getting a pass on this issue when he voted for it?

“Clinton is expected to announce a $2 billion proposal to end the so-called “school-to-prison pipeline.””

I am not huge fan of his, but he was only person to stand up against the crime part of the bill and speak about how racist it was.

He didn't create it. The Clintons went out of their way to destroy black families so it's a bit rich for her to speak on the issue as if she or her husband didn't have a hand in creating these conditions.

Addressing the school-to-prison pipeline is a noble goal but as there have been many examples of in recent history, even high-achieving black people with no history of running afoul of the law still end up being victimized by the criminal justice system, sometimes with disastrous and even deadly results. Part of any

One, not a Bernie bot. Or a Hillary bot. Or an anyone bot.

It was Bill Clinton’s crime bill but Hillary supported it. I think reason why he is getting a pass is because he has addressed it, the reason why he voted for it was because the Violence Against Women act was attached to it. If the violence against women act was not attached to it he would have not voted for it, he

Let’s see if she gives that same speech to a bunch of donors.

bye Hillary. Lots of black people are critiquing Bernie so closely because we don’t even look at your neo-liberal, blue dog Democrat, Wall Street-supported ass as an option. We just want to make sure the next “progressive” candidate we support is indeed what he says he is.

More mental/behavioural health support is always good, but if you’re going on high rates of suspensions and arrests, maybe start with the teachers and resource officers who are disproportionately punishing black students for things they let white students skate for.

This is so true. I am thinking of pulling aside each of my female students and encouraging them to talk up more but that just puts the onus on them to change boys’ minds rather than, you know, boys not to be shits.
