AND the abused woman was choked during that encounter, which is a sign that the abuse is escalating and become life-threatening. So it’s especially great that the judge punished the already-abused woman.

it needs to be easier to get these fucking scum suckers off the bench. they do not deserve to be treated like demigods.
Ah Republicans. When they actually appoint a woman for something they scour the earth to find the most evil, misogynistic ones possible.
She wasn’t really denying the fact that the woman suffers from anxiety, more taking glee in the fact that she’s willingly choosing to subject the woman to an experience (jail time) that she knows is going to make the problem much, much worse. Which is, itself, much, much worse.
^^^ this yes !! yes!!! It’s insulting to make fun or disbelieve someone who suffers anxiety.
Domestic violence charges should be brought by the state so that a woman like this one doesn’t have to be put in the position of pressing charges or not pressing charges.
Hey! If you don’t have any training in mental health issues, let’s not pretend to be an expert on mental health issues, mmkay, Judge?
I saw this on the news the other day. The judge took the contempt part to heart. She was dripping icy scorn. The quality of mercy was completely absent. And the woman’s pleas as she was escorted out were heart wrenching. I know it’s important to press charges. But there is no way that this woman wasn’t re-victimized.
That’s not how this fucking works.
Some of us have to be fake to some degree to get along with society which demands the same traits/qualities from everyone. Often it’s done without any evil intent but just to fit in.
To me, being fake - as opposed to being a multifaceted person who acts differently in different situations - means being a liar and hypocrite. And very few of us tell the truth and live up to our ideals all the time, so we’re all at least a little fake.
It’s also worth nothing that for those of us who are depressed, introverted, or some combination of the two, society has expectations of gregariousness and an “always smile!” attitude for everyone that don’t come very naturally for a lot of us. And the toll of having to keep up appearances in public can be extremely…
Seriously. There’s nothing shameful or secret about it and there’s nothing wrong with mentioning it *when it’s relevant* but appending it automatically is offensive.
i don’t like when someone’s negative emotions come up and people point out that they’re finally showing their “true colors.” this is from me watching a lot of reality tv.
“...Rosie O’Donnell’s adopted daughter Chelsea...”
Um, Kelsey? That was the drugs.
In related news, I have many fundamentalist religious friends who have never experienced an orgasm, and that’s just fiiiiiiiine. Because sex is just for making babies and for making sure your husband doesn’t stray.
Well. I mean. Duh.Who votes for them? The very rich and the poor and ignorant. They don’t want there to be more of the very rich, so they have to make more poor and ignorant.
While blaming their neighbor for being broke, and never noticing (nor even knowing enough to notice) that they’re being fleeced and exploited by corporations.
Well, yes. And their worst nightmare would be having poor white people recognize that the “poor” part is actually more important than the “white” part and start voting that way. Hence the constant dog-whistle racism (and more and more mainstream-audible racism).
