These days the Ridgeline starts at $30k...and goes way up with options.
I was thinking about it after my rant, and my truck would be much closer in price to the Ridgeline if it was a 4X4. But for me, in South Carolina, 4X4 is just extra weight/complexity that I will never use. If I lived in a place where the odds of driving in snow/ice were probable, the Ridgeline would make a lot of…
My problems with the Ridgeline when I was shopping for a mid-sized truck:
Millen, Georgia, the highway leading into town is a 65... 55... 45... 35. When I saw the 55 I canceled my (65mph) cruise control, I was coasting at 45+ when I hit the 35 zone, and their was a Millen cruiser laying in wait. My veteran license plates, and me being a cool guy, got me out of the ticket. Funny thing…
A) I wasn't talking about the 1st gen, that's a totally different truck, and pretty badass IMO.
Just because sellers are asking $20k for their trucks doesn't mean they're worth it, I'd have to see what they're actually selling for.
Debatable. Most truck buyers would rather buy a newer, more powerful/capable truck than an '03 F150 for $20k. They weren't even that fast in '03 thanks to their "detuned" Lightning engine, 0-60 in 6+ seconds. The new EcoBoost F150 is quicker, and better looking IMO.
I have no qualms with the Harley Davidson F-150, except people selling them these days want $20k for them... which is a little steep for a 10+ year old truck that makes less power than the new EcoBoost F-150.
I kinda like the Sport Trac (never owned one). The Sport Trac only had a 4'2" bed, even with a bed extender that's small. My Frontier has a 5' bed and a bed extender, and it's very useful.
I always hated those, regular cab only... wtf? It's like they were trying to make a pickup that could compete with the Mustang GT. Except the Mustang was faster, handled better, used less gas, sat four people, had a manual, etc. IMHO, the Silverado SS was a better "sport" truck. The SS could actually tow/haul a…
I looked at these before buying my Frontier, being one of the three mid-sized trucks for sale in the US. It is bigger in every dimension then my Frontier (crew cab), heavier, less hp/torque, lower towing capability, and even the base model was almost $30k.
My mom just bought a 5-speed WRX to replace her 5-speed Jetta 1.8t, she loves it! My mom is a 69 year old Jalop.
You get about the same real-world average as my '14 Frontier, I spec'd a comparable Colorado at $33.3k... my Frontier was $26k.
Considering the Frontier will probably weigh less, and makes more torque (at lower revs), you're probably right.
You can still buy a Pro4-x Frontier or TRD Tacoma with a 6-speed/V6.
I find it funny that my crew cab Frontier is considered a mid size, but the Ridgeline is a trucklet. The Ridgeline is longer/wider/taller/heavier, has less power, and gets worse gas mileage. I really don't see the appeal.
Which part?
The Colorado is just too expensive IMO, at $30+k for a V6 mid sized... you might as well get a V8 full sized. The Frontier was compelling because I could get a well-equipped V6 for $10k less than a V8 full size. I really liked the Tundra DoubleCab 5.7 2WD SR5... but they're $35k+ and get lousy gas mileage.
