Seriously. When I saw this all I could think was how desperately PR needs to become an actual state. Can we just make PR and DC states at the same time? Please???

But for struggling readers, they are a Godsend, and for parents, extremely fun to read with their children.

I went to a literacy conference earlier this year and one presenter was talking about how essential it is to teach onset and rime distinctly to students as they’re learning to read. (That is, how to separate the first part of a syllable from the last part.) Rhyming words is an excellent way to teach this, but…

I’m guilty of reading some pretty bad stuff online. (I always shake my head and sigh at how awful the writing is... but I keep reading.) I took a screengrab of some titles from a site I was perusing a few months ago because it amused me so much:

There’s a David Sedaris story where he talks about his sister advising him that if he’s on the phone with someone and has to poop, just tell them you’re trying to open a jar. He then reflects on all the times she told him this when they were on the phone.

That’s probably true, though he was not nearly as progressive as he could have been, considering his background of supporting desegregation and racial equality as Governor-General of the Philippines.
