I know he wasn't intentionally racist but… I think about the fact that if he would have been born in the 18th century, he probably would have been a slave owner - he might have been a "kind" slave owner who loved slaves like people love dogs/animals, but a slave owner. He shouldn't use that word, at all.

If you're one of those people who don't think anyone should say the word, then the debate isn't worth having. I personally think it's okay for a marginalized group to take a word and reclaim power.
