^^^ This. I’m a lawyer and I paid another lawyer to do our estate plan. It’s bad enough if you don’t have kids or a lot of assets, but if you do, you **MUST** hire a professional or you might as well strap a dead-man’s switch to your chest to blow up your house when you die because the effect will be about the same.

I’m consistently shocked at people who do not have wills. I’ve had one since I was 25 (before I had assets), and now we not only have a will but also a living trust to make asset transfer simpler.

This is exactly the issue that drove marriage equality.

if you are that worried about it- have a frank conversation with them to get their wills in order. they dont have to be married to do that.

In coming favorite lawyer’s response: it depends.

P.S. If you are truly too poor to pay $150 for a will, then a lot of Legal Aid offices offer will clinics. You have to be truly indigent or a veteran, but these are attorney-drafted and backed up by the malpractice insurance of Legal Aid.

In actuality, as an unmarried partner to a wealthy woman for over a decade... this is correct. Leaving assets isn’t hard. You just get a lawyer to write it.

Sigh.

Except (and as someone with ZERO Spanish/Portuguese) even I could have guessed that contra meant “against” or “oppose” ie CONTRAindicated, CONTRAlateral, CONTRAception.

I saw this earlier today and it gave me my single biggest (non-hysterical) laugh of this cycle.

Or drug abuse. I know a speed freak when I see one.

Oh, good point! Internalized misogyny for DAYS. Feminists aren’t strong or attractive enough to make it in a man’s world, is the reasoning... and they don’t think the fact that it’s a “man’s world” is the part that needs to change. She and her ilk really do think that women need to be the ones to do the adapting to

Oh, man! You must be having a really rough time of it for the past, what, 15 months? - Having to listen to Trump, & not be quite sure whether you’ve had a seizure or if he really just said those words.

I’ve also seen that ‘backward’ effect, sometimes— women on the frontline in a male dominated workplace/profession get hardened & noticeably less-feminist. I guess the line of thinking is, “I didn’t have feminism to make MY path easier, I didn’t have anybody to tell me they believed me or help ME out while I struggled

It is simply a symptom of some sort of aphasia afflicting republicans. Many cannot form coherent sentences. See also Sarah Palin and/or your drunk uncle.

Don’t forget the “I’m a STRONG woman, unlike those whiny feminist bitches” refrain that goes right along with the internalized misogyny. In the younger set it sometimes manifests as “I’m too pretty to be a feminist”.

Yeah, I feel like I’ve just come out of a seizure. I have epilepsy. When I have a seizure and someone talks to me after it, I don’t process words well and it takes awhile before I can understand full sentences. I miss stuff for 30 seconds during a partial seizure. Watching the debates I felt like I was having partial

My mom raised me as a single mother for a long time. When I pressed her about voting against her self interest as a woman, she said a women’s place is in the kitchen. A son should never have to explain to his mother her self-worth.

If Hillary lost 50% of her cognitive abilities after 55 and Trump lost only 10%, she’d still be 250% smarter than he is.

Trump displays many symptoms of early dementia. Rambling incoherent speech. Inability to maintain focus. Lack of short term memory. Aggressive behavior. Lack of impulse control.
