This was not “hops.” The wall is 8 feet high and he used his foot on the wall to push himself up in the air. It took some good timing, but he didn’t even need to get as high as he did. His arm is bent with his glove just above his head when he catches it. He misjudged it and made up for it with his athleticism.

The fence in CF at Busch is only 8 feet high and that ball was going to barely carry over it. If he hadn’t misjudged it, he could have easily camped at the wall and caught it by just sticking his glove up above the fence. This was a case of his athleticism making up for misjudging the ball.

This is really not a great defense of Hamilton’s athleticism. I’m a 6' tall white guy and I could dunk when I was in my early 20s. I am not that athletic and definitely not a freak.
