If white people could still set black people (and any woman) on fire without being punished, they would do it.

Well, Australia is full of racist assholes too.

Jersey burners = Triggered snowflakes.

But I think your crazy for thinking that Jim Crow laws could be on their way back. That’s paranoid

According to “The New Jim Crow”, they never really left.

Absolutely there will be centrists who say that, and they will find support for that stance among a certain sort too, who will make snarky comments about all that ‘compromise’ and ‘pragmatism’ they worship, without apparently understanding what either word means.

Obviously 1st amendment rules don’t apply to private employers, but employers can’t force you to participate in a political activity. For example, they can’t tell you whom to vote for or even ask you whom you voted for. They also can’t interfere with your religion — which is the example I gave.

Well it’s all coming unraveled, you know that?

It is true that they may be able to do it legally, but if they end up with the vast majority of their basically irreplaceable work force refusing, they’re going to be over a barrel. Note: I’m not entirely sure if they can force their work force to take part in shows of patriotism- it might be up to the courts to

Even that name/term “owners” makes my skin crawl Ugh

If they’re unwritten policies then you can deny their existence. Jim Crow never fully ended. The laws were just repealed. There’s a big difference.

It’s the “progressive wing” that keeps telling us we need to stop with “identity politics.”

The corporate world is nothing but a plantation, just expanded who the slaves are.

Call me a cynic, but if Jim Crow laws do find their way back onto the table of American policy, I wonder if there will be some centrist Dems shrugging their shoulders, and saying,

I think this is much more powerful than kneeling. The issue stems from police brutality - especially on black people. So then use the sign that people know what it stands for. Colin Kapernick said one thing and his teammate said another of wanting to still respect service men and women.

I think technically the difference is that schools are considered a part of the gov’t, and the gov’t can’t limit your free speech ( in this case, West Virginia Board of Education v. Barnette ruled that students cannot be punished for refusing to participate in displays of ‘patriotism’). The NBA is a private

Religion (aka white Christianity) has more rights/protection than race.

Do not tell me children have more rights than black adults.

How can it be legal to force an employee to stand for the National Anthem? There were Jehovah’s Witnesses kids in my grade school who sat through the Pledge of Allegiance, for Pete’s sake. Do not tell me children have more rights than black adults.

Required to stand? No problem.
