I like him, but since Barristan's real identity couldn't be hidden in the show (because, seriously) he became unnecessary. Apart from killing the champion and eating poisoned locusts he hasn't done much else in the books.

Yeah, I never bought the Benjen theory, without meaning to offend anyone, for me it was as ridiculous as the "Syrio is alive" or "Euron is Daario" theories. Coldhands not appearing means he's not Benjen. In Dance with Dragons it was said that Coldhands died "a long time ago", so he couldn't be Benjen anyway.

Are people still pissed about Coldhands absence? Sure, he looks cool, but he's a useless character, in the same league as Strong Belwas. I like that the show is cutting the fat, eliminating the filler characters and subplots, instead of bloating the story like the books.
