Even assuming her "purpose" is to create doubt (which I'm not quite sure about) - there was a person in the courtroom every day whose job it also was to create doubt.

I think one thing would be protecting himself - he was more involved in committing the murder and thought he could pin it on Adnan to get the attention off of himself. But, honestly, that's why it's not SUPER compelling - I just don't see a teenager being that good at FRAMING someone. The only thing we know for 100%…
Oh, sure, every justice system is fucked up, each in it's own special way. Doesn't mean that if it were my friend/sibling/parent/self stuck in the middle of it as a defendant, I wouldn't be going absolutely insane.
WHO IS GOING TO ALL THESE HOLIDAY PARTIES (the last sentence of the first paragraph threw me off). Outside of actual Christmas Eve/Christmas Day celebrations, I have exactly two other Christmas parties this season: one for work and one with friends. Who has so many that it's become a "thing" to talk about "All these…
Oh, I know, it's an example of "How our justice system is fucked up" not inexplicable human behavior.
I'm not "bagging" on the jury. I'm saying I don't understand how they cam to the conclusion they did (not that they are morons or anything to have gotten to that conclusion). And if the way the justice system is set up that you can put a young man in prison for the rest of his life for something that, 15 years…
Oh my gosh, I KNOW. It's in OUR CONSTITUTION.
But his story doesn't even match the cell phone records. I'm all for considering that personal testimony is important and should be taken seriously in court, but not when it is in direct conflict with other evidence. Add to that that Jay has a LOT to gain from framing Adnan, I don't understand how he could be…
I love Serial and I think the only certain conclusion we're going to be able to take away from it is "Damn, the justice system is fucked up." Because regardless of WHO did it, I can't fathom how a jury convicted Adnan beyond a reasonable doubt based on the case presented.
I totally agree. I slightly lean towards him not having done it, but there is no doubt in my mind that he should NOT have been convicted on the case presented.
Emerald was absolutely the best best best!
10x better than gross "Radiant Orchid" ANYTHING is better than Radiant Orchid.
BUT THEY'RE ALL GOING TO DIE
Or even with Shia LaBeouf - - - everyone's like "he's so crazy! that has to be a lie!" The fact of the matter is, people with mental illness are MORE likely to be victimized.
I think the problem is thinking that there's some sort of "cause" rather than individuals speaking about their personal experiences. She doesn't really have that much to gain - for all that people are saying she's an attention seeker, etc., there are plenty of ways to get attention that will actually make her money.
I disagree that personal testimony/claims/accusations should be disregarded as merely "smoke" just because of a small number of false accusations.
There's a huge difference - there weren't over a dozen victims. It's a lot more likely that one person is going to lie than 15+ unconnected individuals.
Yes, once we start listening to women claiming rape, every man is going to be falsely accused of rape. Better we ignore all the women than have every man jailed for rape!
I totally agree with everything but your first sentence - I don't think these women have been silent. These allegations have been floating around for years. We just haven't been listening.
And there SHOULD be a very high legal standard for the government to take away their liberty or life. But that standard does not apply to society generally (specifically because we have not been granted the power to take away people's lives or liberty!). Less power = lower standard of judgment.
