You’re not a sucker; you’re the absolute best.  Slappy and friends thank you sincerely for the water.

I was a gymnast long ago, before the slick, shiny Spandex leotards were invented.  Throughout my adulthood, I’ve had recurring dreams in which I’m back in the gym and *finally* get a chance to wear a modern Spandex leo!  I’m always so disappointed when I wake up and realize there’s no new leo on the way.  Finally,

#7 must be in middle school by now. Something tells me that she probably hasn’t gotten away from all the drama, though.

I had to click through to Youtube to watch it, but it was worth it.  I’ll now hear “Mweap.” after each guitar riff in that song.

I misunderstood your original description. Clingfilm makes more sense, because it would stick to skin without the need of a headband. I’ve been using thin plastic produce bags; not very clingy; thus, the headband. :-)

Aha, I was imagining some combination of plastic wrap and a headband! I guessed right! And I agree with you about the Friday night/Monday morning thing. I really rub the mixture into my temples, where the baby grey hairs are so stubborn, and it does stain the edges of my face for a day or two! The indigo isn’t

The house I’m in now came with SO MANY inspirational wall stickers!  I had a lot of fun peeling off the letters and rearranging them.  The master bedroom had “Always kiss me goodnight” in cursive letters just above the headboard of the bed.  It now reads “Always kiss goo.”

Nah, you looked fine.  Your brows have a quirky little squiggly shape, and I think they’re cute!  Better than the cat’s, anyhow.  Seriously, who draws their brows in vertical lines?!

Some folks have mentioned getting them with good results. Someone also mentioned that she tints her brows with henna to match her henna’d red hair. I tint the greys in my brown hair with a henna/indigo/warm water mix. Different ratios of henna powder to indigo powder produce colors ranging from red to auburn to brown

I know you’re joking about Rihanna’s psyche, but I actually worry about the psyches of young girls who are over-exposed to high fashion editorials and Instagram and Youtube makeup tutorials on a daily, hourly basis. When I was growing up, I had one or two subscriptions to teen magazines that came every month, and I’d

Just keep in mind that once kids go to bed, they don’t always stay in bed!

How do you henna your eyebrows? I henna/indigo my brown hair to cover grey roots, and I do it by mixing the 2 powders together with warm water, applying it to my scalp, covering my head with a plastic bag and knitted cap, and sleeping on it, then rinsing it out in the morning. I have to use the plastic bag and ski cap

I misunderstood your comment and scrolled back up to look for ear hair in the Dietrich photo.  :-\

So many people have said that their brows didn’t grow back after shaving that I believe it can happen.  But I do wonder why -- what quirk of biology tells eyebrow hair follicles to just give up after being shaved off at the surface?  Lord knows my arm hairs don’t give up that easily!

I was hoping someone else would mention this since I’m “gray,” but algae oil has the same levels of omega-3's in it (DHA and EPA), is equally bioavailable, seems to perform just as well in studies, and is much more environmentally sustainable than fish oil.  And, anecdotally, I didn’t notice “fish burps” when I took

Also, our oceans are changing rapidly from the over-harvesting of various species of small anchovy-like fish for the fish oil industry. The “Fresh Air” NPR podcast had a recent episode about it:

Yes! It’s true for insects, spiders, and mammals too! If you feel something crawling on you, and you don’t jump up or swipe it, it has no reason to sting or bite you (unless it’s a mosquito or tick). I once had a gnat fly into my eyeball on a bike ride. (My bike ride, not the gnat’s.) I stopped, gently closed my

Hello, fellow slug-saver. (Although for me lately it’s been earthworms... why do they think they need to cross a paved road just as the sun is warming it up?!?) I’m scrolling through this months-old comment section and read yours and just wanted to point out a couple things:

I’ve come to Splinter a few times, read some articles, read the comments underneath them, become absolutely befuddled trying to make sense of the arguments therein, and gone away dazed, bewildered, and with a nagging sense that liberals/progressives/Democrats are a swirling abyss of tortuous, tangled moral outrage and

I identify with her comments about “#metoo.” I absolutely believe and applaud the women in the movement, but nothing remotely like that has ever happened to me. My physical appearance is similar to hers, and my “vibe” might be similar too. Even when I was much younger and maybe more conventionally attractive, I’ve
