This feels like a bit of a reach to me. The underlying apocalyptic motifs are largely overlooked by most people I know who watch the show. Sex, violence, intrigue, clever dialogue and compelling character development are what make it enjoyable, just like every successful piece of fiction in the history of ever.

What's good about this show is that it is continuously hard to imagine how it will end and hard imagine how you exactly WANT it to end.
