As a fellow vet, I am appalled she supports cops. There are plenty of service members who have a clear disdain toward the overcompensated toy soldiers who aren’t held to any standard higher than a 5 year old.

There is a possible reasonable answer. When they haven’t actually caught someone, and haven’t gathered all the evidence, they charge the person with what they are sure they can convict them on in court.

In Missouri, we don’t have an “attempted murder” charge.  It’s charged out as first or second degree assault, depending on the circumstances.  Charges can obviously be upgraded later as more evidence comes in as well.

Not that they’ve given us any cause to expect better, but they may still pursue an attempted murder charge later after they catch this guy and collect more evidence. It wouldn’t be that unusual.
