Sadly, New Girl has reached the 'just killin' time' stretch of its run, but at its best, it blows Mindy out of the water.

It has the good fortune of airing after New Girl back when it was a legit hit. In retrospect, I really wish the vastly superior Ben & Kate had been given the spot and thus a chance to survive a few seasons more of its lead ins waning ratings.
Don't enjoy the Hulu experience, don't enjoy Mindy, so no issue here. But as one interested in TV and steaming, I do wonder what % a large Hulu audience looks like next to a modest network or cable audience.
I still like most of last year a little more. It feel off at the end, but it felt like it always had momentum. This season was just filler. Ever so slightly funnier, but almost nothing of note happened until the last few episodes.
Nick and Jess coming together was the critical and, I dunno, buzzworthy apex of the show. They weren't even bad as a couple if the writers didn't force then to the front of every episode until snapping their fingers and ending it. The show has been something of an Always Sunny lite. Usually pretty good for laughs,…
Telegraphed with a merely above average batting average. Exactly my thought. I do appreciate the camera work. It's one thing that doesn't seem to get enough kudos.
It's occasionally fantastic, but it misses a lot. Very good show, but not nearly as infallible as some seem to insist.
It was really only the dancing on the booth bit. She's not showing in her face yet, so filming her straight on doesn't show much.
Bonus points for the don't-give-a-fuckness of it. Deschanel is clearly pregnant there, and there was no attempt to hide it.
Fair point.
I've enjoyed the unapologetic 'telephone' approach that various headline writers are taking for this interview. Basically, all she says is 'I don't really think I'm that much like the character I play on TV', but the next headline will read 'Zooey Deschanel will hammer-punch your reproductive organs if you so much as…
MFer should've brought back Fred instead.

My biggest problem is that taking a 6 for a golfer as terrible as Jess isn't really cheating. Deschanel salvaged what she could, and there were a few legit laughs, but that story was just too silly in its conception.
That face contorting scene needed more frantic cuts to an anticipating Winston. As it was, it felt like one of those mildly unfunny bits that stretches out so long as to actually become funny. Except it didn't quite succeed.
Deschanel does farce pretty well, but Jess was always at her best when there is a little substance to her endeavors. The woman was so fantastic, in season two especially, at walking that line. I think the idea of her awkwardness leading her to some conclusion about herself is here, but the story leading her there…
Since mid-late September. First new episodes in almost a month, though.
Feel like on the whole this has been her funniest season. At least before all the Schmidt stuff.
More Deschanel/Dunn would have been nice. The 'won't be able to sleep until we're best friends' bit was my favorite Jess moment of the episode. Also, do we have a new recapper, or are we being led by a substitute ?
This was better than I thought. The characters weren't what I was anticipating, and there were surprising moments of almost genuine heart. Don't think it has much of a short, but it's not bad.
