These mostly exist to reduce NVH. The added sound insulation really DOES make a difference, though why you need it in a Rotory is beyond me.

To be fair, the Rolls-Royce umbrella thing isn’t just for rain. It’s also designed to serve as a privacy curtain that the chauffeur uses for exiting passengers in paparazzi environments. The chauffeur can open the front and rear (rear-opening) doors to 45º, and open the umbrella in the gap to give (primarily female)…
Considering the shape the hood liner on my friends 01 Ram is in, it makes sense.
This isn’t ridiculous at all. Beats having to go to the trunk to get it in a downpour, and like most things VAG, it bled down into the lesser brands.
People who complain about needing to open the door to access the umbrella are missing one crucial point: you don’t drive yourself when you have a Rolls-Royce like that. You have your chauffeur walk around the car, open your door, get the umbrella, and open it for you.
When popping the hood of a car, sometimes it’s nice to see all the dirty mechanical bits because it reminds you that you are actually driving a car. A real live piece of machinery. Why hide any of that? There’s nothing to be ashamed of! It’s not like the people who might actually prefer the plastic covers are ever…
It’s actually designed that way because Rolls-Royce figured that wherever you were headed there would be a butler/valet to open the door for you and upon doing so, if it were raining they could pull the umbrella out of the slot and open it over you so you could stay dry getting out of the car.
Some Skodas has this feature too and it’s brilliant. It’s better than having it hanging around in the car
Puddle lights are fine and I welcome them. Now having a puddle light shine the emblem on the ground, that’s a different story
There’s actually a good reason for this. Most cars go through styling before engineering, so the vents get drawn on before anyone knows exactly what the actual cooling load is going to be. The default is to start with the biggest vents that might be needed, then once a motor is selected, block off as much vent as…
The cool part is that there is a dryer inside it.
I actually love the umbrella idea. If you are going to put the umbrella anywhere, why not do it somewhere within easy reach?!
Disagreed yesterday and disagree today. This is amazing. You don’t want your wet umbrella inside the passenger compartment. In a Rolls you also don’t want it in the trunk which is likely carpeted nicer than most living rooms.
Lights under the door and the lights under the side mirror are fine. I have not seen the logo projector one though, this is awful.
I don’t think this is ridiculous at all, especially on a Rolls-Royce. It’s very clever.
I am positively revolted that you would dare include the Rolls-Royce door umbrella on such a list. The nerve. Plebeians.
I hydrolocked and completely ruined my engine when I went off-roading on Saturday. But there was an upside: I bought…
OH THE HUMANITY!
are we sure this isn’t a diesel? a diesel Miata would be 10x as exciting as this 124. sounds like a 500 Abarth? What video are you watching?
Doesn’t sound like much to me, especially when comparing it to a 500 Abarth. If it is this quite in a parking garage, it will be very quiet outside.
