A League of Their Own was GREAT! I read an interesting critique of her career that talks about the direction she was headed when Ray of Light came out, and how following that path probably would have set her up for a nice evolution of her career. But then she chose the "make out with younger pop stars" route. …
Remember when Madonna was in A League of Their Own? And she was perfectly adorable and wonderful as an actress? Can we just have that back, please?
The thing is, Betty Page never looked bored in her S&M pictures, she made it look fun. I have been seeing faux-lesbian Bette Page inspired pretend bondage fashion shots for 30 odd years. That's about as long as Madonna has been boring me. If I get any more shocked, I will fall into a coma.
I think the porn stigma comes, in part, from the notion that sex is bad and people who enjoy it or are not ashamed if enjoying it are also bad. Like shame about sex is natural.
Joy Friedman needs to go back to school because she doesn't know what the fuck she's talking about. She killed herself because was clearly very sensitive to the harassment she was getting. We can have a discussion about the porn industry and how problematic it is, but her doing porn does not justify people making fun…
Those people who harassed Ms Funke — how do they live with themselves? How can they sleep at night? If I thought I'd been even partially responsible for bullying a person to suicide, I'd blow my own brains out. I don't understand how these people can carry on with their lives.
"I bet if we had to go back and pull back the layers of what happened for her, I imagine we'd find something dysfunctional in her past," Friedman said. [...]
Humans like to watch porn. In order to watch porn, at least one, usually two or more people need to be filmed doing naughty things. How about we be happy some people are generous enough to be filmed doing naughty things, instead of shaming them for it?
People like this Friedman person are a big reason I always felt the need to add, "research psychology, not 'talking about your feelings and making vague conclusions' psychology," whenever I was discussing my major.
Seems a pretty clear cut case of harassment. I'm struggling to understand the mindset of Stillwater on this one.
I was an evesdropper during a conversation at an auto place I worked at in my late teens (hooray for being the only woman!) and there was some super duper serious conversation about how ANY woman over 120 lbs is fat. Period. Anything over 120 regardless of height or build. Now, me being nearly 6'2...well, I think…
This has been a focus of drama in the performing arts world for a minute.
Fourteen to zip, so far. A federal judge in Harrisburg, PA has struck down the Keystone State's ban on same-sex…
Errr... we went to an amazing aria singing presentation at Colorado College a couple years back and EVERY SINGLE PERSON wasn't skinny. Men and women alike. I always thought that opera was the one major art form that being of larger stature was considered a-okay. I am highly saddened to find out this is not the…
Deborah Voigt- the Met fired her for being too fat so she got the surgery. Then the critics whined that her voice went from "golden" to "silvery". You can't win.
Maria Callas.
Right? I remember a performance of La Boheme with a very large singer portraying Mimi, who was supposed to be wasting away from consumption...
Wasn't their an opera singer star that lost the weight and then lost her voice?
