I disagree! I think that makes it even more twee and irritating! I think we will have to agree to disagree on the wedding-humming.

I disagree! I like it so much better imagining that just Brad was humming. It goes from annoyingly twee to completely bizarre which is much more palatable.

instead, family and friends hummed "Here Comes The Bride."

:( :( :( :( :( :( Although I suppose early 20s can be excused too, especially if it's like pre-21/very early 21. Not enough time to go to bars and clubs and meet horrible tattoo-sleeved douches.

I guess I can sort of see why he'd be appealing, but I think everyone within the 20s/30s age bracket can kind of imagine meeting/knowing a guy like him and UGH. Maybe that's the problem.

I think he's like #1 for moms (of grown women). There must be some generational thing where they can't pick up the douche-ness.

I think it's one thing to acknowledge a cultural aspect within this practice, but not to the exclusion of the culture of the UK itself (which is no utopia for women/girls, especially working class) nor is it ok to use "I was afraid I'd be called a racist! This is all the Labour party's fault!" to try to excuse total

Oh totally agreed. The Tea Party is essentially a white supremacist party (they have very similar language/philosophy to old school Klan stuff) and if the system were more like the UK, and if they were their own party rather than a wild n crazy wing of the Republicans, they'd absolutely get a larger-than-acceptable

You might want to include this more nuanced explanation when you express this idea, rather than "it's a way of daily life in ______, so they are just bringing to their new home." It sounds as if you believe that throughout the region this kind of thing is completely normalized, and that most members of this cultural

That's a good point - I definitely would expect them to be understanding. More the ones on college campuses from people who may or may not be secret "clipboard people" trying to raise money for a charity (or, in reality, not get fired after one day for not making their insanely high quota) terrify me.

I'll admit all my experiences of race in the UK do come from the South East. I'd be interested in reading more about it if you had any links or articles!

The color coded thing is definitely something used in schools for kids with special needs (behavioral or otherwise), but I think it's not a bad system for everyone. Often accommodations would be best practice for all people, those without additional needs just manage to do ok despite not having them.

Wow. That's not racist at all.

I know, right? Well we all know the reason why Jimmy Saville was arrested and prosecuted back in the 60's, and spent the rest of his life in prison, is because he's white and it would look good to Labour voters to get him off the streets! That's what happened, right? He didn't continue to be a celebrated icon with

I think I would have had exactly the same reaction, which pains me because I truly loved My Little Pony in the early 90's. It sounds like any other fandom convention (I know too much thanks to tumblr).

There's definitely a lot that needs to be explained in this case! I hope it all comes out, and people are punished (with more than just losing their jobs) for their negligence in ignoring it.

I just don't buy it. The conservatives have been rallying against "political correctness gone mad!!!" for years and this kind of rhetoric about police being afraid to prosecute because they'll be seen as racist only seems to come up when it also works to cover the cops incompetent/negligent behavior. Cryer isn't a

I'm just not so sure. I've never really known police departments in the UK to shy away from targeting Asian men, so it seems very convenient that their claim serves as an excellent distraction from their inability to care about what happened to these girls.

I kind of liked the attitude of dismissing him, because I think in the US we are too open to "hearing all sides of the story" rather than being able to say that particular "side" has absolutely no validity and is a joke. But I agree that he's dangerous and attitudes that he represents are not going away by dismissing

Replying to approve + UGHGHH Nick Griffin. Did you ever see his mobile billboard van thing the BNP drove around before the 2010 elections? Racism party bus!
