I’m not sure you’ll hear Porsche saying that they’re “taking on” Tesla; that’s mostly just journalistic hot takes (because potential Tesla killer makes it sound like a battle, whereas another EV with its own niche isn’t nearly as sexy a story).

They only threw money at Lordstown Motors so that the government would leave them alone on breaking their contracts. GM doesn’t care if Lordstown succeeds or fails. They’ve got their own EV thing going on right now and really didn’t need Rivian either

I had a Mitsu dealer as a client a couple of years ago. They told me they bought the franchise because it was the only way they could get space in the auto mall to sell their used cars. I don’t think they really cared at all whether they sold any new Mitsubishis.
